Job Summary:

Mountain Sports School exists to develop people through mountain experiences, helping guests build the skills, confidence, and judgment to become more capable and independent mountain participants. Mountain Sports School welcomes applicants at every stage of professional development, from first-time instructors entering the profession to experienced PSIA-AASI-certified instructors seeking continued growth and greater responsibility.

This seasonal position includes teaching assigned private, group, youth, adult, and multi-day lessons and supporting Mountain Sports School operations. Instructors participate in required orientation and training, with additional opportunities for professional development, certification support, mentorship, and expanded program responsibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide safe, engaging, and guest-centered ski and/or snowboard instruction consistent with Brundage Mountain Sports School philosophy and PSIA-AASI educational standards.
  • Understand each student’s goals and adapt terrain, lesson pace, activities, and instruction to their abilities and learning needs.
  • Create lessons that are fun, provide meaningful learning, keep students moving, and encourage them to return.
  • Teach assigned private, group, youth, adult, and multi-day lessons consistent with individual qualifications and demonstrated readiness.
  • Build trust, inspire confidence, and create an environment where students feel welcomed, supported, and capable of learning.
  • Maintain professional supervision and guest care throughout each lesson, including assisting students with equipment and lift use.
  • Exercise sound professional judgment and model safe, responsible mountain behavior.
  • Arrive Ready to Teach, honor scheduling commitments, review lesson assignments, and maintain accurate lesson records.
  • Communicate promptly and professionally regarding incidents, guest concerns, schedule changes, and situations requiring additional support.
  • Participate in required orientation, training, feedback, and continued professional development.
  • Support guest arrival, shared workspaces, fellow instructors, and other Mountain Sports School operations, including setup and maintenance of learning areas.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be 14 years of age or older.
  • Ability to ski or snowboard confidently on groomed blue terrain in varying winter conditions.
  • Strong communication skills and a professional, patient, and team-oriented approach.
  • Willingness to teach guests of different ages and abilities, including children aged three and older.
  • Commitment to continued learning and participation in Mountain Sports School training.
  • Previous educational, childcare, guest-service, or outdoor recreation experience is valued but not required.
  • Previous professional instruction experience and PSIA-AASI certification are valued but not required.
  • New instructors receive orientation and on-snow training to prepare them for initial teaching assignments.
  • Certification, experience, and demonstrated expertise may contribute to advanced teaching, mentorship, training, leadership, and program opportunities.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants age 18 and older are required to pass a criminal background check and national sex offender registry check.
  • Ability to fulfill an established season commitment, including peak demand weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in changing winter weather and snow conditions.
  • All instructors are required to wear a helmet while instructing and maintain ski or snowboard equipment in safe working conditions.
  • Instructor equipment must pass a required equipment check before teaching.
  • Ability to stand, walk, squat, ski, or snowboard for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
