Ability to Obtain a Secret Clearance

We are hiring a Senior Embedded Software Engineer in Auburn Hills, MI, supporting the requirements, simulation, design, development, integration, and testing of complex software-based systems for military combat vehicles and U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) programs. This role requires 15+ years of software engineering experience with Embedded C/C++, Linux, Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), UML/SysML, Model-Based Software Development, CAN/J1939, Ethernet, CPU/GPU/FPGA architectures, DevSecOps, SIL/HIL testing, and vehicle systems integration, with eligibility to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and integrate embedded vehicle software and cybersecurity solutions using rapid prototyping, Agile development, and DevSecOps methodologies.
  • Develop software requirements specifications, algorithms, logic flowcharts, and activity diagrams using SysML modeling and simulation inputs.
  • Research, simulate, and analyze software solutions to evaluate system performance against customer and system requirements.
  • Perform engineering trade studies to evaluate and compare alternative software and system approaches.
  • Apply software lifecycle development, verification, configuration management, and integration processes using tools such as Git, Jira, Confluence, Kubernetes, CANoe, MATLAB, and Simulink.
  • Support the development and integration of software drivers, applications, kernels, containers, and virtual machines.
  • Apply safety-critical software and systems engineering principles throughout development and integration activities.
  • Integrate military lethality, survivability, and C5ISR systems into combat vehicle platforms.
  • Support CPU, GPU, and FPGA integration using applicable engineering and design tools.
  • Collaborate with external customers, suppliers, engineering teams, and other technical stakeholders.
  • Support component- and vehicle-level testing, including prototype development and test activities.
  • Review test plans for compliance with customer requirements and system functionality.
  • Use test and scanning software tools to support verification, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Support System Integration Laboratory (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) integration and testing.
  • Monitor and analyze test results, troubleshoot software and system issues, and implement corrective actions.

Qualifications:

  • US citizenship required
  • Must currently hold or have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Automotive Engineering.
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, including software development and systems integration across the product lifecycle.
  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), Linux, and Embedded C/C++.
  • Experience with UML/SysML and Model-Based Software Development.
  • Experience with software and engineering tools including Git, Jira, Confluence, Cameo, Kubernetes, CANoe, MATLAB/Simulink, and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with standard vehicle and communication bus protocols, including J1939 CAN Bus, RS-422/485, and IEEE 802.3 Ethernet.
  • Experience with communications and video protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, DDS, Multicast, DisplayPort, HDMI, and HD-SDI.
  • Experience integrating or developing systems using x86, ARM, GPU, and FPGA architectures.
  • Working knowledge of digital, analog, power, and RF electronics.
  • Knowledge of systems-based design and related engineering standards and processes.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering principles and vehicle systems.
  • Understanding of vehicle power distribution systems, automotive power management, and Power Distribution Modules (PDMs) and their integration into vehicle systems.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, function generators, network analyzers, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Experience with engineering management in a highly regulated industry.
  • Experience working within multinational, multi-organizational, and corporate engineering environments.
  • Experience supporting proposal development, bid capture, contract negotiations, and delivery planning.
  • Ability to develop and present technical solutions to customers, engineering teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Must meet applicable background check, employment verification, reference check, and controlled substance testing requirements.
  • Must be willing and able to travel internationally for technology transfer activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience delivering large, complex U.S. Department of Defense programs.
  • Experience with U.S. DoD ground vehicle requirements, vehicle development, and acquisition processes.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Army TACOM, TARDEC, and/or GVSC organizations.
  • Experience with military Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, and Intelligence (C5ISR) systems.
  • Experience with fire control systems, stabilization, coordinate transformation, and related algorithms.
  • Experience with VICTORY, FACE, GCIA, and Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) standards and architectures.
  • Detailed knowledge of applicable military standards and regulations.
