Cumberland Hospital is looking for a qualified Health Information Management Specialist who will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and security of healthcare documentation. This is a temporary position. The HIM Specialist will have understanding of HIPPA compliance, medical terminology, strong attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. The HIM Specialist will play a vital role in managing, organizing, and analyzing medical records and other documentation related tasks.
Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation to include organizing, analyzing, indexing, and maintaining medical records within required timeframes.
- Reporting and tracking of deficient documentation to assist a multidisciplinary team in maintaining compliance rates and ensuring documentation contains required elements.
- Review provider documentation at admission for accuracy and finalization to ensure signatures are obtained and documentation is on the medical record within the required timeframe.
- Compile multidisciplinary reports into formal treatment teams and correspond with identified external individuals/organizations for retrieval of completed reports.
- Compile multidisciplinary reports into formal discharge summary and ensure signatures are obtained within the required timeframe.
- Data entry.
- Sorting, filing, indexing loose paperwork.
- Processing release of information requests and maintaining consent forms to ensure HIPPA compliance throughout admission.
- Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required, Associates or Bachelors Degree Preferred
- 1-3 years of relevant experience required; 3-5 years of relevant experience preferred
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required
- Must consistently exhibit mental and emotional ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job

Pay: Hourly (bi-weekly) and is commensurate with education and experience.
A pre-hire drug screen, pre-hire background checks, and education verification are required of new employees.
